For the record, the first journalists/coders/designers/legal experts Hackathon in October 2012 still has an online home: http://omc.thesponge.eu/

” The Open Media Challenge was an excellent showcase of the innovation occurring at the nexus of transparency and accountability, technology and media in Romania and neighboring countries – great quality entries and some deserved winners”  – Stephen King, Partner, Omidyar Network

We wanted to share some quick facts about our event:

The Bucharest Open Media Challenge had over 60 participants, spanned across two days at two different locations and had several interesting presentations. We completed & published 8 open hacks and had 4 winning topics. We’ll keep monitoring and socializing all hack entries, so we strongly encourage all our participants to polish their hacks. “The Open Media Challenge in Bucarest/Romania is a posterbook example how to do a hackathon: Good organization, highly motivated participants and awesome ideas/projects that actually delivered” – Sebastian Mondial, freelance Data-Journalist and Research-Specialist

If you’d like to keep in touch with us and participate to our future events please reach out to omc@thesponge.eu or check out our schedule.

In the works: a future discussion list and regular meet-ups with our regional media lab.

Big thank you to all our talented participants, volunteers, jury members, partners and sponsors who helped with ideas and suggestions and who turned this event into a great success.
