Liana is a human rights activist. In 1997 she joined ActiveWatch (formerly known as the Media Monitoring Agency) - a media watchdog, and human organization in Romania.

For the past 14 years she built, consolidated and coordinated the FreeEx program of this organization, focusing on protecting and promoting the right to freedom of expression and freedom of the press. Liana’s domains of expertise include: media law, media ethics, media development. Currently, Liana is deeply involved with the Sponge activities, as a way of promoting free speech and sharing of information and culture in the digital environment, and as a way of innovating in terms of civic involvement.

Liana holds a BA in journalism and a MA in Communication Sciences (both form the University of Bucharest) and a MA in Human Rights (from the University College London).
